Disgraced former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is making headway in his race to become New York City comptroller, with a new poll released Thursday showing he’s beating his Democratic opponent.
The NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll reported that Mr. Spitzer — a Democrat who stepped away from the governorship amid racy allegations he chased after prostitutes — is besting his primary competitor, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, by 9 percentage points.
The poll states: “Among registered Democrats in New York City, including those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate, if the Democratic primary were held today, Spitzer receives the support of 42 percent compared to 33 percent for Stringer. One percent is behind another candidate. A notable 24 percent are undecided.”
