Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are kicking off an eight-city campaign to bring information to communities about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.
The group is billing it the “Making Good Health My Reality” tour and denying it’s a sweep in express “support” of Obamacare, a spokeswoman for the caucus said in a Politico report.
In a statement, the caucus said the tour is to “ensure communities are equipped with the information they need” on health insurance exchanges and law requirements.
The tour starts July 20 in the Virgin Islands. Other stops, Politico reported: Chicago; Oakland, Calif.; Miami; Dallas; the Brooklyn borough of New York; Las Vegas; and Baltimore. The tour stops are planned in mostly minority districts, Politico reported.
“There’s still so much misinformation out there about the Affordable Care Act,” said one caucus member in the Politico article. “We want to make sure that our communities are prepared and know what to expect and are ready to take advantage of both the enrollment and Medicaid expansion where it exists.”
The announced tour comes just a few days after President Obama held a closed-door meeting with caucus members at the White House.
