So President Obama’s favorite food is broccoli?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has jumped on that pro-vegetable bandwagon, releasing on its website pictures of a T-shirt it’s now offering for sale. The image on the shirt: a broccoli floret spilling out of the president’s green-faced head.

“Now you can celebrate our veggie-loving commander-in-leaf with a ’Broccoli Obama’ t-shirt,” PETA joked on its site.

The whole broccoli discussion kicked off earlier this week when the president, in a White House luncheon with dozens of children, agreed to answer a couple questions. In answer to a query about his favorite food, Mr. Obama said “broccoli,” various media reported.

That’s quite a switch from former President George H.W. Bush, who said he absolutely hated the vegetable.

“And I haven’t liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me eat it,” he said in 1990. “I’m president of the United States and I’m not going to eat any more broccoli.”
