Tuesday’s court proceedings in the second-degree murder trial of George Zimmerman wrapped with a tense moment after defense attorneys tried to object to the long hours but the judge, in response, simply walked away.
Defense attorneys were left standing in midsentence, video of the exchange showed.
Mr. Zimmerman’s lawyers were attempting to argue that they couldn’t keep up with the demands of the trial, in part, they said, because of prosecutors’ withholding of key evidence, ABC reported. But the judge refused to hear the complaints.
“I’m not getting into this,” said Judge Debra Nelson, as ABC reported. “Court is in recess.”
“Judge, I’m not physically able to keep up this pace much longer,” one defense attorney, Don West said to the judge’s retreating back. She abruptly left the courtroom.
Mr. Zimmerman, 29, faces charges related to the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012.
