Ousted Egypt President Mohammed Morsi is safe and sound, and so far, no charges have been filed against him, said a top government head on Wednesday.
“Morsi is in a safe place, for his safety, and he is being treated with dignity,” said the foreign ministry’s Badr Abdelatty, Agence France-Presse reported. “He is not charged with anything up till now.”
Egypt’s military dragged Mr. Morsi from power last week. It was widely believed he had been placed at the Republican Guard headquarters, under house arrest.
CNN reported that military officials have scheduled a press conference for Wednesday to try and smooth its public relations image and show its ability to bring calm to a nation that’s been in chaos since Mr. Morsi was overthrown as president.
