Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said to a Twitter poster who messaged her on Fox News: Yes, a third-party emergence for the next presidential election is a real possibility.
It all depends on whether the Republican Party remembers its principles, she said.
If the GOP “continues to back away from the planks in our platform, from the principles that built this party of Lincoln and Reagan,” GOP voters with a “libertarian streak” could very well unite for a third party, she said, The Hill reported.
“I think there will be a lot of us who start saying, ’GOP, if you abandon us, well, we have nowhere else to go except to become more independent and not enlisted in one or the other of the private majority parties that rule in our nation,” said Mrs. Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate. “Remember, these are private parties and no one forces us to be enlisted in either party.”
She made the statements in reply to a Fox News watcher who asked via Twitter if she would embrace the idea of a Freedom Party headed by conservative news host Mark Levin.
