Actor Jamie Foxx made a bit of a political statement at the BET Awards Sunday night, by wearing a T-shirt bearing the image of a hooded Trayvon Martin, the unarmed Florida teen whose shooting death last year sparked intense debate over gun laws and racial profiling.
Mr. Foxx took the lead actor award for his role as a freed slave in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained.” He didn’t mention his T-shirt or Trayvon during his acceptance speech.
In April, the actor walked the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards wearing a T-shirt honoring the slain teen and the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Conn.
Mr. Foxx later explained to Jay Leno that he was moved to get involved with the case after an emotional encounter with Trayvon’s mother at the NAACP Image Awards, the Los Angeles Times reported.
