Iranian terrorists detonated a bomb nearby a popular soccer field in Baghdad late Sunday evening, killing 12 and leaving dozens injured.
Most of those killed or hurt were teenagers, Iraqi hospital sources said, United Press International reported.
Soccer players and fans have become terrorist targets in recent weeks — more so than mosques and markets — and it’s not clear why, UPI said.
A three-day sweep of attacks on soccer athletes and their fans last week killed at least 50 and injured even more, UPI reported.
And since April 1, bombers have killed more than 2,000 at athletic events.
