Hollywood’s Arnold Schwarzenegger pushed environmentalists Thursday to end their “doom and gloom” warnings and instead vamp up their message. Be “sexy,” he said, Raw Story reports.
“If we want to inspire the world, it is time for us to forget about the old way of talking about climate change, where we crush people, where we overwhelm people with data,” said the ex-California governor, at the R20 Regions of Climate Action conference in Vienna, according to Raw Story.
“There is a new way, a more sexy, a more hip way. Instead of using doom and gloom and telling people what they can’t do, we should make them part of movement and tell them what they can do,” Mr. Schwarzenegger reportedly said.
While governor, Mr. Schwarzenegger approved measures clamping down on greenhouse gas emission levels — before even the federal government took action. At the conference, he advocated similarly, telling the crowd of about 800 not to wait for federal laws.
“We can’t be paralyzed, waiting for an international agreement or federal action or anything else,” he said, Raw Story reported.
As an interesting aside, Mr. Schwarzenegger said he still drives a Humvee, according to Raw Story. But now, he added, they’re fueled by hydrogen and biofuel.
