One of the first actions of the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change that Democrats set up last week?
A letter to National Football League and National Basketball Association officials, asking for help to lower greenhouse gas emission levels and fight climate change, The Hill reports.
The task force is reaching out to as wide an audience as possible, The Hill states, and in so doing has contacted by letter more than 300 companies and groups for ideas. Aside from the NFL and NBA, recipients included Exxon, Wal-Mart, Goldman Sachs and various environmental groups, think tanks and defense contracting companies, according to The Hill.
“We can’t delay action any longer,” said Rep. Henry A. Waxman, California Democrat, about the need for immediate action on climate change, as cited by The Hill.
“Washington is gripped in a barricade of special interests on the urgent issue of climate change,” added Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island Democrat, who helps lead the task force, The Hill reported.
