Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, in Tuesday floor remarks, called for the firing of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement head for failing to uphold and enforce border laws.
“What purpose is served to pass new laws if the ones we have are ignored by the officials charged with enforcing them? There can be no comprehensive immigration reform as long as it is the policy of the director of ICE, John Morton, to refuse to enforce existing law,” Mr. Sessions said, according to a Fox News broadcast of his Senate floor remarks.
Mr. Sessions is a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
His comments come at a time when President Obama is trying to ease the path of citizenship for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the nation, according to a Newsmax report.
