A hostage situation involving an armed Alabama man and a 6-year-old boy has entered its second day, as police report the man has now bunkered the child in some type of underground shelter.

Tuesday, a man boarded a school bus parked near a church in Midland, Ala., shot the driver four times and grabbed the boy while the other children fled, according to CNN. More than 14 hours later, the ordeal is continuing.

According to the Morning Express, police aren’t saying why the boy was selected, or what his relationship might be to the man.

CNN reports authorities have been able to drop medication the child is supposed to take daily down a pipe to the bunker. Police also say the boy is not physically harmed, according to WDHN.
