Dan Cathy, the head of Chick-fil-A, and the leader of a national gay rights group have made peace, according to various media reports.
In 2012, Mr. Cathy told a radio host that the United States was “inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.” The statements sparked backlash from the gay community, and activists staged “Kiss-ins” at Chick-fil-A establishments around the nation.
Mr. Cathy subsequently reached out to Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride, according to ABC, to see if the two might reach a peaceable understanding.
“I’ve gotten to know Dan, he’s gotten to know me,” Mr. Windmeyer told ABC. Mr. Windmeyer acknowledges he and Mr. Cathy still have differences of opinions over gay marriage — but that they’ve come to an understanding.
“If my husband and I ever get the right to marry in North Carolina, I’ll include Dan Cathy on the guest list,” Mr. Windmeyer reportedly said.
