A U.S. drone strike near the town of Khawlan, Yemen, killed seven suspected al Qaeda members Thursday, officials say.
This is the latest of a slew of U.S. drone attacks in the nation, an al-Qaeda stronghold, in recent days.
Just Tuesday, five were killed by drone strikes near Yemen’s border with Saudi Arabia, and the day prior, four others were killed by drone attack in central Yemen. Meanwhile, weekend drone strikes killed another six, according to media reports.
The attacks come at a time when the United Nations is calling for investigation of the impacts of drone kills on civilian populations in Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan and the Palestinian territories.
BBC reports Yemen’s human rights minister calling on the United States to use an “alternative strategy” in driving out al-Qaeda influence.
