A woman is suing the matchmaker Internet business, Match.com, for $10 million after a man she met via the service broke into her garage and threatened to kill her.
“When police arrested him,” Las Vegas’ Mary Kay Beckman told Fox 5 KVVU, “he said he wasn’t there to hurt me. He was there to kill me.”
Ms. Beckman said she met Wade Ridley during her second month of Match.com use, in September 2010. They only dated for eight days; after Ms. Beckman broke off the relations, Mr. Ridley attacked her with a knife, she told the media.
Subsequently, Mr. Ridley killed an Arizona woman he also met at Match.com, the report continued. Mr. Ridley later killed himself in jail.
Ms. Beckman is seeking a disclaimer to be put on Match.com.
“They don’t say one in five [Match.com users] are part of an attempted murder,” she told the media.
Match.com, meanwhile, reportedly called Ms. Beckman’s statement “absurd.”
