Gallup: Obama hits record high for polarizing politics

In terms of polarizing the public, President Obama is on a fast-track to No. 1.

“Obama’s fourth year in office ties as the most polarized [administration] ever,” Gallup reports. The tying administration was President George W. Bush’s, when only 15 percent of Democrats approved of his presidency versus 91 percent of Republicans, between January 2004 and January 2005.

That’s an approval gap of 76 percent — and now Mr. Obama has hit that level.

“During his fourth year in office, an average of 86 percent of Democrats and 10 percent of Republicans approved of the job Barack Obama did as president,” Gallup found. “That 76 percentage point gap ties … as the most polarized years in Gallup records.”

Mr. Obama made Gallup’s polarized list three other times: Between January 2012 and January 2011, his polarized rating stood at 68. Between January 2011 and January 2012, his rating again stood at 68. And between January 2009 and January 2010, his polarized stat was 65.
