Global warming advocacy groups like the World Wildlife Fund and Greenpeace made appearances alongside scientific studies in a leaked draft U.N. climate report. Critics are slamming the report for using activist organizations to further the climate change agenda, FoxNews.com reports.
It’s not the first time the WWF has been involved in a climate report by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In the 2007 report, the WWF game flimsy evidence to support that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035, and the IPCC published it as fact.
“You’d think that the IPCC would have learned its lesson, that it would have told its authors not to rely on these sorts of publications,” said Donna Laframboise, the head of a website skeptical of the science on global warming.
“The WWF has a definite opinion about whether humans are responsible for global warming. It wants more people to think the way it does,” Laframboise told FoxNews.com. She helped leak documents revealing that two WWF employees were designated as “scientific expert reviewers” of the 2007 report by the IPCC.
“The real issue is that all of the evidence is being evaluated either by people who embrace an activist worldview, or who don’t consider an activist worldview to be at odds with rigorous science,” Laframboise said.
A 2010 audit by a panel of scientists called for less “gray literature,” and the IPCC apologized. The review process for the leaked draft, or the Fifth Assessment Report, has not yet been completed.
