Facebook has issued an apology after suspending and threatening to shut down a conservative fan page over a posting that was critical of the Obama White House.

Todd Starnes of Fox News reported Tuesday that Facebook was threatening to shut down a popular conservative group, called Chicks on the Right, after someone posted an article on the group’s page criticizing Press Secretary Jay Carney.

“Mockarena,” one of the “chicks” who runs the page, said she tried to log into her Facebook page Tuesday morning only to find that she had been temporarily blocked from her fan page and her personal account.

“We removed the following content you posted or were the admin of because it violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities,” read a screen-grab she posted.

Facebook responded once Starnes reported on the the story.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience,” Facebook spokesman Fred Wolens told Fox News. “Unfortunately, the users were incorrectly warned by our User Operation’s Team and we have already removed all associated blocks from the accounts.”

Mockarena posted a new blog Wednesday expressing her new-found faith in Facebook.

“We received an email from a representative at Facebook to a) apologize and b) offer her help at any time should we be faced with a similar problem again,” Mockarena wrote. “She also happens to be a supporter of our page! So contrary to popular belief, there are friendly conservatives who WORK for Facebook.”

Chicks on the Right founders Mockarena and Daisy did not reveal their real names for security concerns.
