To many basketball fans, the Washington Wizards will always be the Washington Bullets. Appearing on a local radio station on Friday, team owner Ted Leonsis gave those holdouts hope.
“Yeah, I’m open to that,” Mr. Leonsis told WMAL of the possibility of changing the team’s nickname back to its original incarnation. “Many fans have suggested it, and I’ve just felt that it’s … like a cheap thrill to change the name back. … We have taken it under advisement. We’ve done a lot of research on that issue.”
In 1996 the Washington Bullets cast off the name because the owner at the time was concerned with the violent connotations associated with bullets.
