A mob stripped, bound, tortured then burned to death a woman accused of witchcraft in Papua New Guinea, as hundreds of witnesses — including children — watched and took photographs.
The pictures were published on the front pages of the Oceania nation’s largest circulation newspapers, Associated Press reports.
Sorcery-related killings are not uncommon on the island. A 20-year-old accused of sorcery died in a hospital earlier this week after being tortured with a hot iron rod, doused in gasoline and set on fire, AP reports.
Police have yet to make any arrests in either of the cases, and members of the public weren’t cooperating in the investigation, AP said.
