A criminal investigation has begun to identify the hacker who accessed personal emails and photographs passed among family members of George H.W. Bush.
The hacker, dubbed “Guccifer,” was able to access private photographs, telephone numbers and addresses of Bush family members and their friends, the Associated Press reported. One photograph, posted at The Smoking Gun website and attributed to the hacker, showed the elder Bush at a Houston hospital being treated for health issues related to a bronchial infection, AP reported. The word “Guccifer” is visible on the photographs, AP said.
On the website, “Guccifer” describes himself as a knowledgeable and experienced hacker, AP reports.
Federal Bureau of Investigation officials confirmed a criminal investigation was underway, but declined to give details, AP said.
