Caroline Kennedy is reported to have topped President Obama’s short list to replace David Jacobson as the U.S. Ambassador to Canada.
Mrs. Kennedy has always been a strong supporter of the president and even spoke on his behalf at the 2012 Democratic convention in Charlotte, N.C. She has mostly been out of the spotlight since withdrawing her name
from the race for Hillary Clinton’s vacant Senate seat in 2008.
Other contenders rumored to be on the list include former Washington governor Christine Gregoire, former Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm, retired Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Fox News reports.
Kennedy, the daughter of the late President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is the only living member of the White House Kennedy’s.
“She would have star power. People would like that, of course,” one Canadian government source told the New York Post Wednesday.
The Glode and Mail notes that the new ambassador — whoever it may be — may not be named and confirmed by the Senate until this fall.
