Tim Geithner is jumping from U.S. Treasury Secretary to the Council on Foreign Relations, as distinguished fellow based in New York, starting later this month.

The move is not entirely unexpected; the 51-year-old was a CFR senior fellow in 2001, Newsmax reports.

Mr. Geithner’s legacy as Treasury head includes oversight of the Troubled Asset Relief Program that bailed out Citigroup Inc. and General Motors Co., Newsmax said. Mr. Geithner also took a leading role in negotiating increases to the national debt ceiling with Congress.
