Out with the iron. In with the cat. That’s the decision of Monopoly voters who weighed in from 120 different countries with their choices for the new game piece.
The game maker’s “Save Your Token” contest wrapped at midnight.
“It’s been an exciting campaign, and a lot of Monopoly fans around the world have gotten involved,” said Hasbro Gaming’s vice president of marketing, Jonathan Berkowitz, in an ABC report. He’s not kidding: Votes were cast from such countries as Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan and Liechtenstein, according to ABC.
This was the first time that Monopoly fans were given a chance to decide which of the game pieces should go, and which should stay, The Associated Press reported.
The Scottie Dog was most popular with voters, with 29 percent of respondents requesting its stay, AP reported. The cat, meanwhile, got the thumbs up to add as a game piece from 31 percent of voters, AP said. The iron received the fewest number of votes and was booted.
