U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn seriously injured her right knee during a brutal crashed at the World Alpine Skiing Championships in Schladming, Austria.
She was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of a torn ACL and MCL, according to multiple news outlets.
Weather likely contributed to the crash.
“It snowed a lot Sunday night, there was no training possible Monday on the race hill, then it rained most of Monday afternoon and evening,” Ms. Vonn said, in The Denver Post. “I know they’re going to try really hard to get the race off Tuesday.”
Ms. Vonn is a rumored girlfriend of U.S. golfer Tiger Woods, the New York Post reports.
Prior to the race, a giggling Vonn declined to say if the golf legend rumored to be her new beau planned to watch her in action. “Oh my god! I don’t know, you should ask him!” the New York Post reported.
Vonn divorced fellow U.S. ski racer Thomas Vonn in 2011. Woods’ marriage to wife Elin disintegrated amid revelations of his multiple affairs.
Meanwhile, Tina Maze of Slovenia went on to win the super-G in 1 minute, 35.39 seconds, beating out Lara Gut of Switzerland by 0.38, The Associated Press reported. Julia Mancuso of the United States came in third, 0.52 behind the lead, AP reported.
