The 25-year-old Iraq war veteran and Marine who allegedly shot former SEAL sniper and American hero Chris Kyle and another person during a Saturday charity event is reportedly on suicide watch in his Erath County, Texas, jail.
Eddie Ray Routh is being held on a $3 million bond for two counts of capital murder, according to reports from the Dallas Morning News. On Sunday, he became aggressive with guards and had to be Tasered, the Dallas paper reports.
Dallas Morning News describes that Mr. Routh refused to return his dinner tray to guards and when they tried to retrieve it, he tried to “attack them.” Mr. Routh was subsequently restrained in a chair in a solitary cell and placed on suicide watch, according to the media account.
Mr. Routh has not admitted to the shootings, and police are still seeking a motive, the report continued.
“I don’t know that we’ll ever know,” Capt. Jason Upshaw, with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office, told the Dallas Morning News report. “He’s the only one that knows that.”
