The first attack on the World Trade Center that left six dead and more than 1,000 injured took place 20 years ago Tuesday, just past noon.
A ceremony is set for Tuesday at the 9/11 memorial site, with a moment of silence scheduled for 12:18 — the exact moment when the truck bomb exploded, The Associated Press reports.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said of the attack, according to AP: It showed that “terrorism is theater, and New York is the biggest stage.”
Six Islamic radicals — including Ramzi Yousef, the mastermind behind the bombing — were since convicted of terrorism related charges.
