Tiger Woods said Tuesday that winning alongside President Barack Obama against a team of U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Houston Astros owner Jim Crane was “pretty cool.”
In a first, Mr. Obama and the famed golfer hit the links together Sunday in Palm City, Fla., at the Floridian Yacht and Golf Club.
“Playing with Mr. President was pretty cool,” Mr. Woods said at a press conference ahead of the Match Play Championship. “He’s just a wonderful person to be around. And we won.”
“It was an invitation that certainly you don’t turn down, especially being he’s an avid golfer and so am I,” the world’s No. 2 golfer joked.
“He has got amazing touch,” Mr. Woods said, according to AFP. “He can certainly chip and putt. If he ever spent, after these four years, more time playing the game of golf, I’m sure he could get to where he’s a pretty good stick.”
A feud erupted Sunday between the White House and the press corps, who were invited to cover the president’s mini-vacation, but not his golf game with Tiger. White House press secretary Jay Carney shrugged off the complaints, saying the president was relaxing on vacation.
