Burger King’s Twitter profile was hacked Monday afternoon by an apparent McDonald’s enthusiast.
The domain name remained @BurgerKing, but the display name said McDonald’s with a profile picture of McDonald’s golden arches. The profile also featured pictures of Chicken McNuggets, a McDonald’s classic, and the restaurant’s newest addition to their menu, Fish McBites.
As of 1:15 p.m. Monday, the account had been suspended, but the damage had already been done. The hacker posted a photo of a man injecting a syringe into his arm in a bathroom with the caption, “We caught one of our employees in the bathroom doing this… #soldtomcdonalds #failurewhopper”
The account continued to tweet what appeared to be mostly inside jokes, but one tweet in particular encouraged readers to “Try our new BK Bath Salt. 99% Pure MDPV. Buy a Big Mac, get a gram free!”
The flap may have actually helped the chain, as its Twitter account grew by more than 5,000 followers in less than five minutes.
