Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters Saturday in support of Christopher Dorner, a fired cop who is suspected of killing four people, including two policemen.
The protestors said they were speaking out against police corruption and the way the massive manhunt for Mr. Dorner was conducted, the Los Angeles Times reports.
“How the police handled this — they were the judge, the jury and the executioner,” Michael Nam told The Los Angeles Times. He held a sign picturing a tombstone engulfed in flames reading, “RIP Habeas Corpus.”
“As an American citizen, you have the right to a trial and due process by law,” he added.
Police said Mr. Dorner died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after a standoff with police in Big Bear, Calif., on Tuesday.
Occupy Los Angeles also has spoken out in solidarity with the alleged cop killer. The group posted a photo to its official Facebook page Wednesday showing Mr. Dorner and a caption reading, “Rest in power Chris Dorner. Assassinated by the police for trying to expose LAPD corruption.”
Occupy LA has nearly 56,000 supporters.
