Both NBC News and MSNBC have hired former White House press secretary and senior adviser to President Obama, Robert Gibbs, as a contributor.

MSNBC made the announcement Tuesday night just minutes before the president’s State of the Union address.

“I am for the first time tonight able to introduce you as an MSNBC contributor,” Miss Maddow said to Mr. Gibbs. “Congratulations on that.”

“Thank you, I’m happy to be here,” the new contributor responded.

An NBC News source told Politico that Gibbs would also be a contributor on NBC News.
