The International Olympic Committee has cut wresting from the 2020 Summer Games — but it’s still not known which sport will take its place.

IOC members are set to discuss a replacement at their May meeting, according to a report in Newser.

But why wrestling? The Associated Press reports that wrestling is one of the Olympics’ oldest sports — and projections were that the pentathlon would be the booted event.

Newser says IOC members looked at television ratings, ticket sales and doping rules before making their decision. Politics and public relations could have played a role, too; Newser reports that pentathlon officials pushed hard to keep their slot.

The 2020 games include 26 events, Newser reports.
