Police on Thursday were searching for convicted murder Steven Robbins, 44, after he was inadvertently freed from custody in Chicago.

Mr. Robbins had been serving a 60-year prison sentence in Indiana, but was sent to Cook County to face drug charges. Those charges were dropped, “but for reasons yet unknown, the offender was released by Illinois authorities without being held for return,” the Indiana Department of Corrections said, in a statement printed by The Associated Press.

Illinois and Indiana authorities have asked the public to help find Robbins, according to the AP. Details about his murder conviction aren’t known.
