Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will host the outdoors show “Amazing America,” set to air in April on the Sportsman Channel.

The network said Monday that it has hired the outspoken Republican to help the show celebrate a “red, wild and blue” lifestyle, The Associated Press reported.

“It’s very important to have somebody of her stature as a personality on Sportsman because it validates the whole category for everybody,” network CEO Gavin Harvey said.

The Sportsman Channel is carried in fewer than one-third of American households with television, with programming geared to people interested in hunting, fishing and shooting, AP said. It also airs a series with conservative activist and rock musician Ted Nugent.

“The network showcases a lifestyle that I love and celebrate every day and it’s great to be a part of their team,” Mrs. Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, said in a statement, AP reported.
