A Nevada conservative activist is incensed after his attempt to name a peak after former President Ronald Reagan was thwarted by a Democratic lawmaker who instead filed a bill to name the property after a former state politico — another Democrat.
Rep. Dina Titus quietly brought forth a bill to name the peak of Frenchman Mountain after Maude Frazier, the state’s first female lieutenant governor and a key player in the creation of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Fox News reported.
Her quiet filing brought an immediate halt to a months-long effort from Chuck Muth, a Nevada resident who had been trying to raise political support since September to name the peak “Mount Reagan.” Mr. Muth said even the state’s Board on Geographic Names had given the thumbs-up for the name, Fox News said.
But once Ms. Titus filed her bill, the board pushed Mr. Muth’s proposal to the side, Fox News said.
Now lawmakers in Nevada have to decide on Ms. Titus’ bill — but Mr. Muth said he’s worried that the delay will mean his “Mount Reagan” idea will be sidelined forever.
Mr. Muth wasn’t happy about the bill, calling it in Fox News a “cheap, petty, partisan, political stunt.”
