Donations to the gay waitress in Bridgewater, N.J., who allegedly forged a hate note are being refunded, NBC 4 New York has reported.
Dayna Morales, who worked at Gallop Asian Bistro, made headlines last month after she claimed a customer left her a note reading, “I’m sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle.”
Donations from all over the world started rolling in, and Miss Morales, a former Marine, made an announcement that every penny was going to the Wounded Warrior Project. NBC later reported that Miss Morales was dishonorably discharged from her service last year.
The couple accused of leaving the note came forward, producing the identical receipt, tip included, and a bank statement proving they tipped her — suggesting the note was forged by the waitress herself.
The Gallop Asian Bistro announced on Facebook on Saturday that “in light of the investigation and recent events, both Ms. Morales and Gallop Asian Bistro have made a joint decision that Ms. Morales will no longer continue her employment at our restaurant. We wish her well in the future.”
Three people also have notified NBC this week that the electronic donations they sent to Miss Morales’ PayPal account were refunded.
One man who mailed cash to the restaurant said he has not been refunded, the station reported.
As of Wednesday, the Wounded Warrior Project was unable to find any evidence of a donation from Miss Morales after searching by last name, ZIP code, nearby towns and possible third parties, a representative for the organization said, according to Patch.com.
