Toronto’s embattled mayor, Rob Ford — who just landed a radio gig at a Washington, D.C., sports station — tried to silence the media storm that brewed over his crack-smoking activities by offering to buy the video that supposedly proved his drug use, new court documents reveal.
It’s believed Mr. Ford offered $5,000 and a car in exchange for the video, The Guardian in London reported. The new details came to light from police wiretaps.
Mr. Ford refused to answer questions about the matter on Wednesday and laughed when pressed to respond, The Guardian reported.
The video is what eventually led to Mr. Ford’s admission of crack use. He later told media that part of the reason he smoked crack was because he was drunk at the time. Mr. Ford has refused to step down from office, and so far, seems on path to seek re-election next year.
In the meantime, the D.C. sports talk station WJFK at FM 106.7, known as The Fan, said Mr. Ford is slated to come on live and give his National Football League picks. Mr. Ford also picked up a starring role in the Canada-based reality show, “Ford Nation,” with his brother, Doug, who is a member of the Toronto City Council.
