One of the Muslim murder suspects on trial for hacking to death British soldier Lee Rigby in a horrific, broad-daylight attack told police after his arrest that his actions were “humane” and based on Allah’s will.
The Telegraph reported the ongoing trial of Michael Adebolajo — one of two radical Muslim suspects captured on video carrying out a bloody, machete attack on Rigby in May — included graphic details on Thursday, via police recordings of discussions with the Muslim suspects after their arrest. For instance, jurors heard how Adebolajo admitted to police after his arrest that he had tried to slice off Rigby’s head because “the most humane way to kill any creature is to cut the jugular.”
The 28-year-old also said to police that he couldn’t recall “how I struck the first blow,” but that “I struck at the neck and attempted to remove the head,” The Telegraph reported.
He also said: Soldiers were considered by Muslims fighting against the British government a “most fair target” but that in Rigby’s case, he was selected for attack because he was the first uniformed military member he and his fellow Muslim friend, Michael Adebowale, saw on the street that day.
“It was almost as if Allah had chosen him,” Adebolajo said, The Telegraph reported.
The testimony of the suspect’s interviews with police was the first time that jurors heard Adebolajo admit he killed the British drummer — but at the same time, he stopped short of agreeing he was a murderer. He also said that the killing had caused him “heartache,” The Telegraph reported.
Rigby, 25, was first run over and then hacked to death in London streets outside his Woowich military barracks.
