Westboro Baptist Church members have announced plans to protest and picket at the funeral of Hollywood actor Paul Walker, who, along with another man, died Saturday in a fiery car crash in California.
The religious group, known for protesting military funerals as well as the services of celebrity figures, announced its plans for Mr. Walker with this message, reported by the New York Daily News: “Saying ’God loves everyone’ is saying, ’The God of the Bible does not exist.’ @RealPaulWalker knows better, TODAY!”
The group also claimed the “Fast and Furious” star was “in Hell & Westboro will #PicketFuneral.”
Westboro’s other messages: “Paul served himself & the gods of this world (money, fame, excess of riot, etc.) while refusing to serve His Creator & use his platform, to encourage his neighbors to do the same,” one member tweeted, the Daily News reported.
At the same time, fans — angered by the Westboro announcement — tweeted back that Mr. Walker was actually known for his charitable works and had founded Reach Out Worldwide, a group to help those hit hard by natural disasters.
In recent months, Westboro members have set their protest sights on celebrities such as country singer Blake Shelton because he and his first wife divorced, and British Olympic diver Tom Daley, who announced he was gay.
