A gang of thieves broke through the cinderblock wall of a New York City Best Buy and took off with $74,000 worth of electronics, police sources said Tuesday.
The crooks used a jackhammer to smash the four-foot-tall hole before snatching the merchandise and fleeing through an alley next to the waterfront shop on Bay Parkway and Bay View Place, on Tuesday sometime before 5:50 a.m., the New York Post reported.
Cops discovered that a chain-link fence leading to the alley had been cut. They also saw “drag marks” on the cement.
The New York Daily News reported earlier that police were investigating the possibility that the crooks left the scene by boat, since there was a ladder leading down to the water, but that theory didn’t pan out, the Post said.
The burglary may be linked to a string of Best Buy thefts, law enforcement sources told the Post.
