Police with the Natural Resources agency in Maryland are scouring Montgomery County, looking for information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible for killing two bald eagles.
On Christmas Day, police say they found the body of a shot eagle in a field at the junction of Georgia Avenue and Bordley Road in Brookville, The Associated Press reported. A few days later, another eagle — an older, mature one — was found shot but alive nearby a residence in Darnestown. That bald eagle later died, AP said.
The state’s Natural Resources agency says the bald eagle isn’t an endangered species any longer — but still, federal law mandates hunters obtain permits from the Department of Interior before shooting the birds.
State authorities say those with information about the bald eagle shootings should contact the Natural Resources Department.
