Tim Tebow hasn’t closed the doors on his playing days, but the lightning-rod quarterback has taken a big step toward what could be his next career.
Tebow has been hired as an analyst for the new SEC Network, which is set to launch in August. ESPN, which will run the network, announcement the multi-year agreement Monday afternoon.
The final line of the press release said the new gig “will not preclude” Tebow from continuing to pursue NFL playing opportunities.
The former University of Florida quarterback probably won’t have to worry about future schedule conflicts in that regard after flaming out in NFL chances with the Denver Broncos and New York Jets. The 26-year-old did not play this season after being cut by the New England Patriots following training camp.
Tebow will make his TV debut next Monday during ESPN’s coverage of the BCS National Championship Game between Auburn at Florida State.
His primary role with the network will be as an analyst on the “SEC Nation” pregame show set to originate from campuses in the style of ESPN’s popular “College GameDay,” but it’s a safe bet he’ll be featured prominently across ESPN’s myriad platforms.
