A dozen civilians living in Christian villages in northeast Nigeria were killed in two attacks carried out by Islamic militants over the weekend.
One of the attacks targeted a wedding party.
Witnesses told The Associated Press that eight were killed at the wedding reception in Tashan-Alede village, and four more at the nearby Kwajffa village.
A security official declined to confirm the number of those killed, but said the attacks did take place. The attacks come on the heels of a threat from one leader of the four-year uprising, which has plagued the country, to start targeting Christians. Since that threat, violence in Christian villages has increased, AP reported.
