Seattle football fans cheered so loud at CenturyLink Field during Monday Night Football they sparked a shake that registered as an earthquake at a recording station just down the road.
John Vidale, a professor at the University of Washington and the director of the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network said in CNN that the quake recorded in the magnitude 1-to-2 range.
Mr. Vidale and his colleagues took note of five separate incidences of seismic activity during the game — won by Seattle over New Orleans, 34-7. And believe it or not, this isn’t uncommon for Seahawks fans.
In 2011, CNN reported, a touchdown similarly shook at the same earthquake recording facility, CNN said. And in September, Seattle fans packing the seats set a Guinness World Record for noise at an outdoor stadium, hitting at 136.6 decibels — a significant jump over the previous record of 131.76, set at a Turkish soccer match.
