President Obama may have escaped Washington for a lengthy holiday vacation, but his weekend still was dominated by two of the commander in chief’s favorite activities: golf and basketball.
On Sunday, Mr. Obama and the first family attended a college basketball game between the University of Akron Zips and the Oregon State Beavers, coached by first lady Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson. The game was held on the campus of the University of Hawaii.
After the game, Mr. Obama, the first lady and daughters Malia and Sasha dined at the pricey Morimoto Waikiki restaurant. The restaurant is run by chef Masaharu Morimoto, best known for his role on the “Iron Chef” TV cooking show.
On Saturday, Mr. Obama spent the afternoon golfing with White House aides on a Marine Corps course at Kaneohe Bay.
The president and his family traditionally have spent the holidays in Hawaii. This year, the family is staying at a rented home on Oahu before returning to Washington on Jan. 5.
