Rep. Trey Radel — who pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine in November — emerged from drug rehabilitation this week, vowing to continue “serving” his Florida constituents and “excited” to get back in the political game.
Politico reported that he said, “I’m excited to begin this process of rebuilding your trust and doing what you elected me to do.”
His statement would seem to put at bay any notions of his quitting his congressional post.
He said in November after being caught with cocaine that he was struggling with an alcohol problem.
His arrest came after he tried to buy cocaine from an undercover federal agent in downtown Washington, D.C., and then — when agents took him back to his apartment — actually offered up more cocaine. He pleaded guilty to the drug possession charge in November and entered drug rehab on Nov. 21, taking a short leave of service from the House.
