CENTENNIAL, Colo.—The mega-popular British boy band One Direction sent a get-well-soon message via video Thursday to Claire Davis, who was wounded in last week’s shooting at Arapahoe High School.
The 17-year-old student remains in a coma following surgery at Littleton Adventist Hospital, but her friends launched a Twitter campaign called #Get1DtoClaire in order to reach out to her favorite band.
The five One Direction members appear in the 14-second video with somber expressions while Liam Payne does the talking.
“Hi, Claire, we heard you’re a big fan and we just wanted to show you some love. What happened to you is absolutely terrible,” he says. “We can’t bear to think about it. We just want to share some love with you. All our prayers with you and your family. Hope you get well soon. Lots of love.”
Liam then gives her a thumbs-up, while Louis Tomlinson blows her a kiss.
Claire remains in critical but stable condition after being shot point-blank in the head in the Dec. 13 shooting. She was sitting in the hallway and was apparently targeted at random by the gunman, who killed himself less than two minutes later.
Claire’s friends and supporters were thrilled after learning of the video, captioned “Special message to Claire from 1D.”
“ONE DIRECTION NOTICED CLAIRE WE DID IT OH MY GOD THANK YOU BOYS,” said a Tweet from Jenna Hamilton.
Teenage girls weren’t the only ones involved in the effort. Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck was among those who tweeted #Get1DtoClaire, and several Denver news stations gave a shout-out to One Direction after the video was posted.
“Thnx @onedirection for the support! You’re awesome!” said Denver 9News anchorwoman Kyle Dyer in a Tweet.
