Gunmen dressed as police swarmed an airport in the Philippine capital on Friday, fatally shooting the mayor of a nearby town and three others, and injuring several more.

Reuters reported that the mayor was named Ukol Talumpa, and he governed over the town of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur. Three unnamed passengers at the Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport were also shot to death, and four others injured, said airport manager Jose Honrado, in the report.

Mr. Talumpa was standing with his family near the airport terminal, waiting for a ride, when the attackers approached him and fired at close range, Mr. Honrado said. The gunmen then fled on motorcycles.

“We are still investigating the motive,” he said, Reuters reported.

Mr. Talumpa’s family declined to comment.
