Four people pulled over for traffic violatios early Friday while driving a Massachusetts highway now face drug charges, after police discovered and seized 1,250 bags of suspected heroin in the vehicle – that had been labeled “Obama Care” in large red letters.
The photo of the drug seizure was making the rounds of Twitter.
Apparently, the bag labeler had a sense of humor – at least a dark one.
Massachusetts State Police troopers pulled over the vehicle in for a range of traffic violations, The Boston Globe reported.
A trooper then determined the driver didn’t have a license. The other three passengers appeared nervous, and the officer said he saw what looked like illegal narcotics in the vehicle.
So he called in the drug-sniffing dog – and the animal alerted on the bags.
Trooper Todd Nolan told The Boston Globe that the label was puzzling.
“To the best of our knowledge, it’s like branding,” he said, explaining that drug dealers frequently use the tactic so buyers can identify the particular batch the drugs came from, The Boston Globe reported.
Asked about the labels on the bags, Trooper Todd Nolan, a State Police spokesman, said, “To the best of our knowledge, it’s like branding.” He said drug dealers commonly use branding on their wares so buyers can identify which batch the narcotics came from.
Two of the suspects came from Vermont. The other two hailed from Massachusetts.
