Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia joined the chorus of lawmakers Thursday who want to see the pain of budget cuts spread around to alleviate the pressure on military retirees.
The Republican lawmaker told MSNBC he thinks Congress should take a look at pensions for all people, not just those who serve the country in uniform, after a recent budget deal shaved cost-of-living adjustments for younger military retirees.
“We can find the money to do that,” Mr. Isakson said.
In a rare show of bipartisanship, the Senate on Wednesday passed a budget deal that forwards a spending blueprint to President Obama for the first time in years.
Mr. Isakson was one of nine Republicans who voted for the measure.
“I’ve been married to the same woman for 45 years,” he told MSNBC. “I understand compromise.”
